Der Alpinestars SM-5 Course Blue verwendet ein EPS-Innenschalen-System mit unterschiedlichen Dichtegraden, das darauf ausgelegt ist, die Energieabsorption bei verschiedenen Aufprallvektoren zu optimieren. Die Außenschale besteht aus einem hochwertigen Carbonfaser-Verbundwerkstoff, der ein außergewöhnliches Verhältnis von Festigkeit zu Gewicht bietet, Rotationskräfte bei seitlichen Aufprallen reduziert und gleichzeitig die strukturelle Integrität bewahrt. Ausgestattet mit der MIPS-Technologie (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) verfügt der Helm über eine reibungsarme Gleitschicht, die es der Innenschale ermöglicht, sich bei schrägen Aufprallen unabhängig vom Kopf zu bewegen, wodurch das Risiko schwerer Hirnverletzungen signifikant verringert wird.
