Das Alpinestars SMX-6R setzt auf ein EPS-Innensystem mit mehreren Dichtezonen, das bei Aufprallen eine progressive Energieabsorption bietet und so das Risiko von Kopfverletzungen deutlich reduziert. Die Außenschale besteht aus einem hochfesten Carbonfaser-Verbundwerkstoff, der im Vergleich zu herkömmlichem Fiberglas ein besseres Verhältnis von Steifigkeit zu Gewicht aufweist und so die strukturelle Integrität optimiert, während Rotationskräfte im Unfallfall minimiert werden. Integriert ist die MIPS-Technologie (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) mit einer reibungsarmen Gleitebene, die es dem Innensystem ermöglicht, sich bei schrägen Aufprallen unabhängig vom Kopf zu drehen und so die Rotationsbeschleunigungskräfte zu verringern – eine häufige Ursache für Gehirnerschütterungen.
